Geralyn Datz, PhD, MP

Dr. Datz’ goal is to help others understand how psychology can transform recovery, help individuals overcome adversity, and activate the human potential. She is a sought-after speaker, accomplished writer, and scientific presenter. She presents nationally and internationally at scientific, legal, and industry conferences. She has authored a number of peer-reviewed scientific articles, book chapters, and White Papers. Published topics include pain psychology, the mind-body connection, addiction, health psychology, mental health treatment, returning to work/after injury and addressing burnout in healthcare providers.

In 2011, Dr. Datz founded Southern Behavioral Medicine Associates, a group specialty mental health practice that serves multiple states and has a diverse array of providers and services. At SBMA, Dr. Datz provides assessment and treatment of chronic pain and mental health issues, as well as presurgical evaluations. Dr. Datz is an expert witness and IME evaluator both nationally and internationally.

Dr. Datz received her PhD in Clinical Psychology at SUNY Stony Brook in Long Island, New York. She completed her residency at the New Orleans VA Medical Center and specialized in Behavioral Medicine. She completed her Post Doctoral Fellowship in Behavioral Medicine at LSU (Louisiana State University), Pennington Biomedical Research Center. She received her Master’s in psychopharmacology by Alliant University, San Diego. She is licensed by the Board of Medicine in Louisiana, and the boards of psychology in Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi. She has received numerous awards, including the Hubert R. & Renee Rosomoff Award as a pain management provider and a Comp Laude Award. Dr. Datz is a former President of the Southern Pain Society and a longstanding Board Member.
